Inman volleyball standout Taelir Winkel has signed a letter of intent with Pratt Community College.
The 6-1 Winkel was having an All-State-type of season when she was felled with a knee injury and missed the rest of the year.
As a junior, Winkel earned second-team All-State, first-team All-Area and first-team Heart of America League. Even though she played only a month of her senior year, she showed enough to earn HOA and All-Area honorable-mention.
Winkel said her surgery was a success and she’s doing well in her physical therapy. She should be ready to go when fall practice starts.
Winkel was impressed with Pratt and coach Patrick Hall. “I have worked with coach Hall in the past and was extremely impressed with his coaching skills and knowledge of the game,” she said. “I feel he is the best coach for me.”
“We are very excited to have Taelir joining our program next year,” Hall said. “Taelir is a dominant force in the middle, and we expect her to have an immediate impact helping us establish the middle next season. Both her club and high school experience have given her the foundation to make a quick transition to the college game. It will be fun to watch Taelir develop at the collegiate level.”
Pratt ended the 2008 season one match short of a trip to the NJCAA Nationals, finishing as the runner-up in Region VI. It will return All-American outside hitter Kate Trejos, All-Conference outside Tatiana Gonzalez, All-Conference setter/right side Julianna Chavez, setter/right side Kalie Mader, and outside Ricci Lambert.
